Workshop One: K/S 2 (years 7-11). Specially designed for younger students, this workshop uses simple theatre techniques to explore the themes and characters in the show:

  • Forum/Image Theatre to explore emotions, character types, animals and silent improvisation
  • Group tableaux and storytellin
  • ocus on central themes of family, friendship, death, coming of age and conflict
  • Physicality and physical theatre techniques to explore the characters of Simba, Mufasa, Scar, Timon and Pumbaa
  • The Circle of Life

 

 

 Workshop Two: K/S 3-4 (years 12-15). Physical theatre and Balinese dance inspire the physical development of the characters in The Lion King. This workshop explores several techniques which teach students to develop their own physical characters from the show:Physical theatre techniques based on Artaud and Laban to explore body isolation and energy 

  • Tableaux imagery to explore emotions, characters and animal nature
  • Physicality in movement with an introduction to Balinese dance theatre
  • Group tableaux and character interaction

 Workshop Three: K/S 4+ (years 16+) and adult groups - A physical theatre master-class for experienced drama and dance students, this workshop teaches performers some of the techniques used in the show to develop an acute awareness of their physicality in the creation of a physical character:Physical awareness and an introduction to Balinese dance theatre

  • Exercises to explore Artaud (theatre of cruelty) regarding physicality and the use of gesture and the power of sound over speech
  • Physical characterisation and mime
  • Tableaux images to explore some of the themes within the production.
  • Three hour master class also available
