1157performancegroup contemporary theatre 1995 – Today

1157performancegroup are an artist led company founded by performers Matthew Scott and Jo Dagless in 1995.

Since its inception 1157 have created a powerful body of work ranging from reinvented classics, new writing, devising, site specific work and installations. The work is probing entertaining and unconventional.

“1157 are extending the boundaries of dramatic art” – BBC.

The company are committed to creating a new theatrical language and much of the design and content of performances include tele - visual elements, live feed cameras and multi sourced sound, both pre recorded and live.

Texts are often compositions of found words and specifically written scripts. The performances of 1157 often have an element of simultaneity, orchestrations of chaos and control.

1157 have created work in a number of contexts predominantly within the theatre but often in unusual spaces such as foyers, galleries, building sites, and museums. The company undertakes small scale touring in the U.K and internationally to art centres theatres and festivals.

Currently 1157 are resident at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts in Maidenhead, Berkshire and also have their own studios, THE BANK, an old TSB bank in Bracknell where they create the work and deliver outreach work to the community, which include performance workshops, artist workshops and internships. For more information on current projects visit the website or call to be placed on the mailing list.
